Our Riders

Meet the riders for Pony Cob and Horse Saddles.

Katie Jerram-Hunnable

Mike Davies, founder of Pony Cob and Horse Saddles had been aware that Katie had been impressed with their saddles as she had passed favourable comments about them on several occasions. So it seemed a natural progression for us to work together to develop a new and exciting range of show saddles.

We started in the summer of 2014 and it quickly became evident that Katie’s knowledge, experience and enthusiasm was going to make a great contribution to the design process and as we now look at the final designs, her input has really made the difference. From the start Katie was always clear about her criteria, the saddles had to :-

  • be comfortable for the horse allowing it to move freely and perform to its full potential
  • be comfortable for the rider, providing a balanced and secure ride
  • look great in the show ring
  • provide a comfortable and secure ride for the ride judge

As a result we set ourselves a very high objective, to design and produce the most functionally effective and the most comfortable saddles in the show ring and we believe this is exactly what we have achieved.

The design process has involved countless meetings and ride trials at Katie’s yard and from this we have developed several prototype models for Katie to “test drive” initially at home, and then as the designs were refined actually being used in competition. Katie has made a point of inviting feedback from ride judges which has all been extremely positive. You can imagine how delighted we were when Katie went champion at Kent County on her lightweight Gortlas Rinarinca in one of our prototype saddles which went on to feature on the front cover of Horse and Hound !!

In addition we have also developed a new “leatherlook” waterproof ride on saddle cover. Katie was keen to have a waterproof saddle cover she could use when “working in” at outdoor shows in bad weather. It needed to be something she could quickly remove just before entering the ring so the KJ Saddle Cover was born. It is made from a soft stretchy material that covers the saddle and is comfortable to ride on, it is not slippy under your seat and grips the leather of your saddle. One other great advantage is that it can be fitted or removed quickly and easily without the need to remove the stirrups.

Penny Hollings

BHS/BSPS Elite trainer and producer of show animals and their riders from local to national level.

Penny has been producing and training all levels of horse and rider for over 30 years. She works with people and their animals to attain the best possible partnership in order that they are better able to achieve their goals.

The Hollings Show Saddle was really a natural development as Penny Hollings had worked with us for a number of years and we all believed to get the best from any horse or pony it is crucial to get the pony comfortable and free to move through its back and shoulders. Many saddles may create the desired look but put the rider out of balance and restrict the ponies movement. So we have developed the Hollings Saddle to allow ponies to perform. It is built on a traditional English wooden tree, has neat bearing panels which are wool flocked and mould to the shape of the pony during use.

Robert Walker

Robert has found it difficult to find new saddles that meet his needs as a professional rider, so it was quite a challenge but great fun working with Robert and Sarah. The Robert Walker Saddle is built on a wide flat tree that providing width and space for big moving horses.

We have used a new way of supporting the rider without creating bulk under the leg. This allows the rider to sit in balance with the horse but feel really close to the movement.

The saddle comes in beautifully soft leather in dark havana, is in a variety of seat sizes and in 7 width fittings.

“I have always found it impossible to find saddles that meet my three main requirements, they need to be comfortable for the horse, suitable for the show ring and also allow me to ride and feel close to the horse. Having been involved in the design of this new saddle from the start, I really think we have developed something special, it not only meets all of my requirements but will appeal to riders everywhere who are looking to get the best from their horse.”

Introducing Jo Waterhouse, who has now become a brand ambassador for Pony Cob and Horse Saddles Ltd. Jo has ridden on our saddles for a number of years and it’s great to be able to support talented young riders. Here is a little bit about Jo:

Anya Kolleth

We love this action shot of our Sarah Jump saddle!

Modelled by Anya Kolleth and Merlin. Anya is the latest brand ambasssador for Pony, Cob and Horse Saddles. Here is a little bit more about her written by her mum, Joanne:

‘Anya is a 16 year old event and dressage rider based in Shropshire. Last year Anya was selected to represent Great Britain at the Pony European Championships in Denmark after a successful season, including a 6th place at the British National Pony Championships. At the Europeans she was part of the silver medal winning team, as well as finishing 8th individually. Last season, Anya also added a new pony to her stables who she will be competing at international dressage competitions throughout 2017 to gain more experience and develop as a rider.

We were introduced to the Pony, Cob and Horse Saddles, after struggling to find the perfect fit for one of my event ponies, and consequently his performance was suffering. After just weeks in the new saddles we noticed a marked improvement in both his behaviour and his performance. As a result, our other event Pony will also be fitted out in Pony, Cob and Horse saddles for this season.’

Freya Metters

Freya has recently joined our team. Here she is putting our Coniston Dressage Saddle through it’s paces.

She tells us a bit more about herself below.

‘I had my first riding lesson on my fourth birthday and I haven’t looked back since.  As a child I came up through Pony Club taking part in all the various disciplines and competing on the area teams and at the PC National Championships.  I also competed in affiliated showjumping up to National Championship level before focusing my attention on dressage.

Nowadays I split my time between affiliated dressage, qualifying for the Nationals on numerous occasions, and top level showing, competing at the most prestigious shows around the UK.  I also regularly hunt through the Winter with the Holcombe Harriers, so I like to keep busy!

I work as a freelance rider around the Lancashire area and I have some great horses to ride, so I’m very excited for what this season is going to bring!’
